Apple has done it again. It has created an unbelievable amount of hype and anticipation for the iPhone 5, said to be coming out sometime in October. Could the release of the iPhone 5 be the largest Apple wave to ever hit telecom shores? We think so, and here are a few of the reasons why:
- Historically, Apple has released a new version of the iPhone every 12 months, but it has been 15 months since the release of the iPhone 4. That extra waiting period has given iPhone enthusiasts nearly 25% longer to sit and salivate, and naturally they are hungrier than ever. In fact, in a recent survey conducted by RBC Capital Markets, 31% said they are “very likely” or “somewhat likely” to buy an iPhone 5.
- This will be the first release where both AT&T and Verizon will be offering the new iPhone, while in the past AT&T has held that right exclusively. It’s also rumored that the iPhone 5 will soon be available on both Sprint and T-Mobile, which will only serve to widen the potential iPhone 5 audience. So for the first time in history, the iPhone will likely be available on all of the top carriers.
- The announcement of Steve Job’s retirement served to shine a huge light on his contribution to Apple and the world of telecom, music and communications. The fascinating story of his career was shown on every TV news station across the world for several days, and all the free positive Apple received PR can only help in the effort to win even more fans.
For these reasons and many more, do not be surprised if Apple’s iPhone 5 breaks all kinds of sales records.
